Whenever my dad left for work, I would listen to him talking to my brother and my uncle. We heard news of the port, which was growing. AM radio would broadcast ship information, including how many workers would be needed. I’d be in a corner, always listening, and I think this stirred my interest in working there. My parents loved it when I started at the port. They are so proud!
